THE SAVIOR PROPHESIED IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

As prophesied by Isaiah, around 700 years before the birth of Christ (see Isaiah 61:1-3 NKJV)

"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,
To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified."
NKJV

WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?

The answer to this question is the same today as it was in Jesus' day. This issue is addressed in many places in the New Testament. One poignant example is presented in the book of Acts. The following scenario occurs when the Apostle Paul and Silas are thrown into prison, their feet fastened in stocks, after being beaten for casting a demon out of a slave girl who had been bringing her masters much profit by fortune-telling.

Acts 16:25-34 (NKJV):

...But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone's chains were loosed. And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, "Do yourself no harm, for we are all here."

Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."

Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household. NKJV

Romans 10:9-10:

...That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. NKJV

Romans 10:13:

...For "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." NKJV

SALVATION IS BY GRACE, THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST

WRITTEN BY LUKE, around 60 A.D., AS SPOKEN BY THE APOSTLE PETER

Acts 10:34-48 NIV
Peter spoke to a large gathering of people:
"I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear Him and do what is right. You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. You know what has happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached - how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him.

We are witnesses of everything He did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed Him by hanging Him on a tree, but God raised Him from the dead on the third day and caused Him to be seen. He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen - by us who ate and drank with Him after He rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that He is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about Him that everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name." NIV

WHERE CAN I FIND HOPE IN TODAY'S WORLD?

(from the New International Version Bible-NIV)

A PATH LAID OUT IN THE BOOK OF ROMANS

ROMANS 1:16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. (NIV)

THROUGH GOD'S POWER, CHANGE CAN HAPPEN:

ROMANS 2: Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance? (NIV)

CHANGE IS NECESSARY BECAUSE OF SIN:

ROMANS 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (NIV)

GOD STILL LOVES ME:

ROMANS 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (NIV)

SIN EARNS DEATH, BUT GOD FREELY GIVES LIFE:

ROMANS 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (NIV)

CONFESS, REPENT, BELIEVE, AND CALL UPON GOD:

ROMANS 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

ROMANS 10:13 "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (NIV)

ARE YOU READY TO RECEIVE GOD'S OFFER OF HOPE AND ETERNAL LIFE?

If so, following below is an example of a prayer you can pray. It's not the exact words that you pray, but the attitude of your heart that matters to God. If your prayer is sincere, Jesus will come into your life as Lord. You will have received Jesus Christ, eternal life, and new hope. Pray a prayer something like this:

"Dear God, I believe that Jesus is your Son. I believe that He died on the cross for my sins and has risen from the dead. I am now willing to change the direction of my life by turning away from my sins and acknowledging Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Please show me how to live a life that is acceptable to You and help me to be the kind of person that You want me to be. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen."

IF YOU'VE PRAYED A PRAYER LIKE THIS, AND ARE SINCERE, YOU WILL HAVE ETERNAL LIFE AND HOPE.

"Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" Romans 10:13 (NIV) (God promises this, and His promises are true)

"To all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God." John 1:12 (NIV) (You are a member of God's family.)

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)
